Christmas in the Smokies

The most wonderful time of the year has finally come around again. It’s time for Christmas In The Smokies! Get ready for lights and music, cold weather, hot chocolate, holiday shows, shopping for presents, fun family traditions, building snowmen, and so much more! I was born and raised in Florida and there were definitely some years where it didn’t even feel like it was December because it was in the 80’s and 90’s outside. Getting to build my first ever snowman last year is something I will never forget. I’m already (not so) patiently waiting for our first snowfall here in the Smokies so I can experience all that this alluring season has to offer since last year took it a bit easy on us! There is no place else I’d rather be during the month of December than here in the beautiful mountains. If you’re planning a trip here to Pigeon Forge during the winter, then Bear Crossing is just the place for you to stay at! We offer gas fireplaces to keep you nice and cozy and all the balconies at this property face our lovely Little Pigeon River! Imagine waking up on a nice, chilly day and being able to take a cup of hot coffee out onto your balcony and see all the beautiful scenery surrounding you at this location. Sounds like a wonderful winter day to me! Another perk of staying with us is that you get FREE TICKETS to a bunch of different shows and attractions in the area, one of them being just a hop, skip, and a jump away from us! That’s right, you can get a free ticket for The Wheel at The Island. Here’s a helpful winter tip: try to do this attraction in the evening so you can see all the beautiful Christmas lights twinkling all along the parkway! With so many fun and exciting things to do here this month, it’s hard to even know where to start. Let’s take a look at what Christmas in the Smokies is going to look like this year!

The first thing we’ll talk about are all the holiday shows that we’ll have going on. If you want to ring in this amazing holiday season, then you’ll definitely want to check out some of these, maybe even all of them if you have the time! One of my absolute favorites is The Dixie Stampede Christmas! This magical show will be full of dazzling lights, holiday costumes, and some of your favorite holiday tunes! These entertainers will help bring the spirit of this season to life right before your very eyes. On top of that, they will also bring happiness to your hungry stomachs when you get to take advantage of their delicious four course meal! All you have to do is come hungry and decide whether you want to cheer for the North or South Pole elves. We hope you enjoy all the fun things that come along with this spectacular show! Need a laugh? The Hatfield & McCoy Christmas Disaster Show will have you covered. Join these feuding families as they hilariously try to get along for this very special holiday. Full of laughter and good food, this one is bound to be a hit for the entire family! Want to know a huge perk of going to this show? A little elf told me that you get a free ticket for it if you’re staying with us! The same goes with Christmas at the Smoky Mountain Opry and the Comedy Barn Christmas show. We got you all covered when it comes to holiday magic at our exciting shows here in town.

The next thing we have to discuss about this charming holiday season is shopping of course! It’s time to start picking out presents for our friends and family, and there are plenty of great stops to take advantage of while you’re here. The first one being the Arts & Crafts Community in Gatlinburg! I was actually just over at some of the shops there recently and I’ve already got some ideas in mind of presents I want to pick up. From paintings and candles to pottery and many other amazing shops, this is one place you’ll want to visit while you’re here this winter. Looking for somewhere to shop in Sevierville? Tanger Outlets definitely has you covered! This new stop has every kind of store that you can imagine in it. Clothing, kitchen, fragrances, shoes, and everything else you could ever need for gift ideas for the holiday will be here. You’ll absolutely be able to find the perfect gift for everyone in your family. It’s no wonder why this place is always full of happy shoppers. And finally, Pigeon Forge will also take care of you this holiday season. All you have to do is stop by The Island and you’ll be able to shop around plenty of spots there to help cross things off your Christmas list! There’s also fun attractions and lunch spots when you need a little break from shopping til you drop!

The last thing we’ll discuss are all the winter attractions and events that will be going on this December that you won’t want to miss out on. The first event that I’m already getting extremely excited for is the Fantasy of Lights Christmas Parade! Join us on Friday, December 1st, at 7:30 pm to see this incredible spectacle! Spanning from light 1A on Hwy 321 to traffic light number ten in downtown Gatlinburg, this enchanting parade is bound to get you into the Christmas spirit. Over 60,000 guests come to see this event every year and this is why it’s an award winning parade that you definitely have to see for yourself! With festive lights, floats, and decorations, you are sure to have a smile on your face while you spend some quality time with your family here at this event. Downtown Sevierville will also have their own parade happening the very next day at 11 am, so make sure you stop by to see that one as well! Once New Year’s Eve comes along, you will want to be in downtown Gatlinburg for it. At the base of the Space Needle, they will be ringing in the new year with their very own Ball Drop and Fireworks show! You don’t even have to travel to New York, we got you covered here in our cute, small town. Over 50,000 people gather at this location every year to celebrate this special holiday and it’s always a crowd please so make sure you don’t miss it!

Now when it comes to attractions that you’ll want to visit this season, one spot automatically comes to mind – Ober Gatlinburg, of course! Depending on the weather, ski season they will open in early to mid December and it’s the best place to be this winter. From skiing and snowboarding to tubing and ice skating, this location will have something fun to do for everyone in your party! Want to know one of my favorite parts? They offer ski school to help teach us the basics before we hit the slopes on our own. Being from Florida and never even seeing snow before, I definitely needed and took advantage of it last year. Don’t forget to take the aerial tram when you come to visit this destination so you can see all the beautiful winter scenery from way up above. This spot is one that needs to be added to your winter agenda this year. Anakeesta is a new attraction that I’m sure everyone will want to visit this winter so they can see all the beauty that our mountains possess! Sitting at the top of the mountain, you will be able to see views that will take your breath away. I can only imagine how amazing it will be to see the Christmas lights, especially at night, when you’re up there. I know it’s one spot I will definitely be checking out myself this holiday season!

So now that you’ve had a sneak peek into what Christmas in the Smokies will look like this year, all that’s left to do is Book Your Family Christmas Vacation to this amazing destination. Don’t forget to take advantage of our Fantastic December Special where you’ll be able to stay four nights for the price of three during the first two weeks of the month! This is one discount you won’t want to miss out on so you can experience all the winter magic going on here in our beautiful Smoky Mountains. Christmas is bound to become your favorite holiday to spend here in Pigeon Forge. Come and join our family here at Bear Crossing, we would absolutely love to have you now and for many years to come!
