New Attractions this May in Pigeon Forge
There are many reasons to love Pigeon Forge, but one of the best things about this area is that it is always changing. Every time you visit the area, you will likely notice something new. New restaurants, shops and attractions are constantly coming to Pigeon Forge. Dollywood and Splash Country like to add something new every year as well, so even if you have been before, there is always another reason to go again!
You may have heard the news by now that Dolly Parton’s Splash Country has a new ride coming this year! However, do you know the details? Let us tell you about this fun ride that you will be able to enjoy when Splash Country opens on May 13th.
High Speed Tubes
Riders will descend on high speed mats through the many twists and turns as they make their way down the insane turns and daring drops. There will be six courses of twists and this new ride will be located near the entrance to the park. The initial drop is enough to get anybody’s blood roaring! Standing five stories, the tubes will be longer than a football field in length and is sure to give everyone a fun and thrilling experience. What makes this ride even more exciting is the fact that you can race your family members and friends down! Six riders begin at once so this could be a friendly competition between siblings as you sprint towards the bottom. After you make your way through the many twists in the AquaTubes, you will make a huge splash in a large swimming pool. Last year, Dolly’s Splash Country introduced RiverRush, which is Tennessee’s only water coaster. This new TailSpin Racer is going to be a fantastic addition to this already popular Smoky Mountain WaterPark.
Now that we have told you about Splash Country, let us touch base on the exciting new rides coming to Dollywood this summer. Dolly’s theme park has two new rides coming and one of them is a junior roller coaster called the Whistle Punk Chaser. Young kids will enjoy this thrilling coaster as it goes through the many twists and turns. This coaster is meant to prepare kids for the day they are old enough to ride the award winning Thunderhead wooden coaster with their parents. So, the kids have a new ride. What do the adults get to enjoy new this year? That would be the Drop Line ride! Drop Line is a 200 foot tall fall-free experience that stands over Timber Canyon. If you like scenic views, then you do not want to miss this thrilling new experience. It lifts you over 20 stories and then you are plummeting towards the ground. Talk about a rush! Both these new rides will be opening the first week of May while Dolly Parton herself is in town for the annual Dolly Parade here along the Pigeon Forge Parkway.
Smoky Mountain Adventures
The Grand Opening for Dolly Parton’s new Pigeon Forge Dinner Show is this May and we cannot wait! Her new show is going to tell the history of Dolly’s family and how her parents put an end to a big feud between the Partons and the Owens. This show is full of mountain adventures, music, high-flying action and a lot more! Although this new show does not offer a pre-show like her Dixie Stampede, you still want to arrive early. Kids of all ages can get a makeover to look like a mountaineer or a mountain princess prior to the show. Dolly does not throw a thrilling show without serving up some delicious food too! Enjoy a hearty meal with Dolly’s family members very own recipes. They call it Avie Lee’s Sunday Dinner and for those that do not know, Avie Lee was Dolly’s mother. Enjoy Grandma’s Noodle Salad, Dorothy Jo’s Homemade Biscuits, Avie Lee’s Fried Chicken, Pulled Pork Scalded & Cooked over at Grandpa Jakes, Cabin Taters, Buttery Corn on the Cob by Uncle Billy and Aunt Marth’s Southern Peach Pie. Anyone else hungry yet? Read more about her new show and book your reservations.

Now that you know you can save quite a bit of money when vacationing with us, let us talk about area shopping. Not many women will say they do not enjoy shopping every now and again. It is always nice to find new things for the home, especially handmade items from vacation. I would highly suggest you check out the Arts & Crafts Community in Gatlinburg while vacationing with us. Numerous artists proudly display their handcrafted items and sometimes you can even witness them demonstrating their trade. You can find everything from stained glass, weaving, pottery, paintings, wood carvings etc. It is a nice way to spend the early part of your afternoon and they have a couple of nice restaurants to eat at along the route as well. My personal favorite is the Wild Plum Tea Room. You can click here and view the map so that you can see the many different shops along the route, as well as the restaurants.
Most area vacationers like to stop at the Tanger Outlet Mall in Sevierville – for good reason. There are over 80 shops and a few restaurants for you to have a nice lunch or dinner at. You receive a free coupon book when you stay with us at Bear Crossing as well.
