September has some special events going on that are sure to excite our long time and even brand new guests that are coming to see us! The kids have been back in school for a little while and I’m sure everyone is ready for the Labor Day holiday. Come and relax on the river with us for your weekend getaway. When you stay with us here at RPM, you also get FREE TICKETS to some of the most popular shows and attractions around the area. With Bear Crossing’s ideal location, you can even walk to one of those attractions when you visit the Island right next door to us! This is also your last chance to see some of those shows before they change over to their holiday specials. Get ready to experience a vacation you’ll never forget when you visit us here in the Smokies!
What is there to do once Labor Day is over? Well, I’m glad you asked! Two words can sum up one of the biggest events Pigeon Forge has to offer, that’s right, it’s time for the Car Show weekends! Shades of the Past will be the first one in town from September 7th through the 9th. Get ready to take a drive down memory lane when you venture out onto the parkway and other locations to see some beautiful vintage cars and trucks from all over the world. You don’t have to own one to enjoy this event! There’s a reason why traffic remains at a standstill, everyone loves coming to just see these vehicles all lined up for display. In the market to buy one of those vintage beauties? The car shows have you covered, many of the owners who bring their cars here are actually looking to try to sell them and this is one of the best events to do so since so many people from around the world come to check it out. As you can see, there’s a reason why this property always gets booked a year in advance. This is something you just can’t miss, so come and see us this month to experience it for yourself!
Don’t pack your bags too soon because the following weekend, from September 14th through the 16th, we have The Fall Rod Run! This one is actually the biggest of the two car shows. While Shades of the Past kind of focuses more on vintage cars, this one actually focuses on all kinds of cars and trucks. Get ready to see the Leconte Center and the parkway get decorated with an array of colors from all of the amazing vehicles that will be there to show off and sell! It’s basically like a huge block party on numerous blocks here, you’re bound to have a good time either walking or driving around to take part in this spectacular event! Best part of it all? When you stay with us here at Bear Crossing, all you have to do is walk down the street and you’re already at two of the biggest sites for the event, The Leconte Center and The Island! Don’t worry about driving through all the traffic if you want, we’re just a hop, skip, and a jump away from all of the action! Another perk? You get a free ticket to the wheel at the Island, so hop aboard and see the car show from up above! You can even stop by at Margaritaville to grab some dinner without even having to go onto the parkway. So what are you waiting for, plan your trip now to come and spend these amazing events with us!
Is it your first time coming for one of the car shows? Need a few tips and tricks of the trade to help survive these busy weekends? We’ve got your back! Being a local definitely has its advantages, and we’re here to help make this weekend as worry free as possible for you! Not in the mood to cook yourself breakfast when you’re in town? Well, when it’s car show time, you want to make sure you’re out and about as early in the morning as possible! I recommend setting those alarm clocks and being there when the doors open at 7 am at most of the pancake houses around here. Trust me, that early morning ding will be worth it in the end when you’re stuffed from pancakes and are able to make it back to the condo without hitting too much traffic. The same goes for just getting out of Pigeon Forge and seeing our surrounding areas like Gatlinburg, just head out as early as possible! Are you going to be walking along the parkway or Leconte Center to see the cars? Make sure you wear comfortable shoes! It’s a six mile straight walk along the parkway and the best part of it? It’s extremely pedestrian friendly, so get out and enjoy some fresh air and see some beautiful vehicles while you’re at it! Not coming for the car shows but still want to see some events around town? It’s time to learn some of those back roads, don’t be afraid to call the welcome centers and find out some of the best ways to get around town, we’ll all be able to get you covered! And the most important trick of them all, be prepared to hit traffic at some point. It’s inevitable with such a big event. Just take a deep breath and enjoy seeing the passion people put into these vehicles, it truly is amazing to see.
Another exciting event that comes into town in September is the National Quartet Convention at the Leconte Center! Are you a fan of southern gospel music? If you are, then this is the event for you. This year is extra special because they are actually celebrating their 60th Anniversary! From September 24th through the 30th, you can take advantage of seeing special performances from an endless array of musicians that take part in this event. They take over the stage and help spread their love for this genre of music with their tens of thousands of fans that come from all over the world to see them! Get ready to tap your feet and sing along when the Gaither Vocal Band and the Homecoming Friends and other acts perform during this week long event. With afternoon and evening showcase spectaculars, you’re sure to be able to fit in at least one of these shows to your vacation schedule! I’m sure that it’s one that you don’t want to miss, there’s a reason why it’s been around for 60 years! And if you love music, don’t forget to stop by Townsend’s visitor’s center to enjoy their Fall Heritage Festival where you can hear beautiful and authentic bluegrass music! And not just that, there will also be arts and crafts activities, delicious food, and a bunch of other fall festivities going on that will be entertaining for the whole family! You won’t want to miss out on this one!
