Smoky Mountain Summer
Summer in the Smoky Mountains. There is no other place I would rather spend these long, humid days. They are made for watermelon eating, unlimited ice cream cones, lazy pool days and hours spent wandering through the endless fun that can be had in the most visited National Park. Smoky Mountain Summers tend to go by way too quickly so we all need to make the most of each and every day..an action packed summer of fun! Pigeon Forge is a great place to spend your summer vacation. Not only does it offer Dolly’s famed theme park and water park, endless entertainment and great dining experiences-there are also numerous places that some forget about when vacationing in this area.
Located about 30 minutes from our Bear Crossing Property is the Townsend Wye which is a local and tourist favorite and one of the best ways to cool off on those hot summer days. It has a beachy feel to it and is a great place to lounge near the water or dive straight in without worrying about river rapids. It is a fantastic swimming hole and you can easily make a good day of it. Be sure to pack a picnic, take some chairs, floats, tubes and you are set for the better portion of the day! In fact, I was there just last week and there were numerous people that I met that had never been there before and they said they would absolutely return! It is a great way to experience the Great Smoky Mountains without having to drive for a good length of time if you do not have the time to travel well within the mountains. It is located in the town of Townsend which is nicknamed “ The Peaceful Side of the Smokies.”
Burger Master Drive-In
After you spend the day swimming and making memories, you will have worked up an appetite, even after that picnic you packed. You want to listen carefully because I am about to give you some solid, great advice. Go to Burger Master Drive-In! Located just down from the Wye, this Drive In has been serving up delicious food since 1967. They serve sundaes, HUGE ice cream cones, burgers, hot dogs, chicken, corn dogs, blt’s etc. Classic food at an extremely affordable price. Fifty years ago, J.C. Morgan had relocated from Knoxville to Townsend and built this famous Drive-In. It was called “The Chalet” back then though. J.C. was also in the horse business and once it started to grow, he sold The Chalet and it passed names a few times throughout the year. However, last year, the grandson of J.C. Morgan purchased the Burger Master Drive-In! It came full circle in a sense and the original lighted ice cream chalet sign is still shining bright to remind people to stop in for some fantastic food! It is honestly the best burger in town. I dare you to dispute it! 🙂
Another great place to “cool off” is by visiting Tuckaleechee Caverns which is also located in Townsend, Tennessee. Dubbed the “Greatest Site Under the Smokies” Tuckaleechee is the highest rated cave or cavern in the Eastern United States. People love to see Elephant Rock, which is a drip-stone formation that plunges about 210 feet. These caves are rich in folklore and history. They also won the Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor for 2017! So you know that travelers are loving the experience. Until the end of October, Tuckaleechee is open from 10AM-6PM daily.
It is so easy to get so busy that we all forget to take the time to sit back and just enjoy all that we each are blessed with. I think when you spend time in this beautiful area and you are constantly gazing at those beautiful rolling mountain hills, it is a bit easier to realize just how lucky each of us are. The Great Smoky Mountains make each and every one of us stop a moment and just embrace the quiet and reflect. That is why I love living here. That is why the Smokies are a treasured National Park. We need that time away from the hustle of everyday life. If you have been wanting to visit the Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg and Great Smoky Mountains area, now is a fantastic time to get those plans in reservation form. Here at Bear Crossing Condos, we offer beautiful and affordable two and three bedroom condominiums. Enjoy the peacefulness of vacationing along the Little Pigeon River and being close to the numerous attractions and restaurants that are nearby. Many of them you can even walk to, including the shops and fun at The Island and Old Mill Square.
