Rainforest Adventures Zoo

Over 600 animals live at the Rainforest Adventures Zoo, representing over 130 species. It is home to unique and amazingly beautiful creatures from around the rain forests in the world. Their primary focus is on animals that you are likely to see on the Discover Channel or Animal Planet. Most of the animals at Rainforest Adventures Zoo have been born or hatched in captivity. The zoo is a great place to take children to educate them on many different animals, including reptiles, mammals, birds, bugs and amphibians. This zoo is open year round and is an indoor attraction. New in 2017, you can see Golden Headed Lion Tamarins! These creatures are some of the smallest and most rare monkeys in the world today. They live in Atlantic forests in Brazil and South America.

Parrot Mountain and Gardens

If you love birds, there is no better place for you to visit than Parrot Mountain! Young and old alike will enjoy this beautiful garden area that features birds from around the world.

Once you arrive at Parrot Mountain and Gardens, you will see a large stacked stone fence that stands about 200 feet tall. It is like the ones you would see if you were in Ireland. You will then start down the paved pathways where you will come to see unique parrot cottages. These cottages house the parrots and are nothing like bird cages. As you continue down the stone paths you will see many tropical birds out in the open, sitting along the open perches. Once you reach the yellow door, you will be entering the secret garden. There, you will see toucans, horn-bills plus many more birds. It is an amazing place to sit down and watch the birds fly freely throughout the garden.

A lot of people really enjoy the Bird Garden (it’s my fave!) and for good reason too! You will enter the Bird Garden after you exit the Secret Garden. Here, you can feed and have your picture taken with about 70 birds.. Get up close and personal if you may. They even have a bird nursery where you can pet the babies and watch them be hand-fed. In addition to the many birds you can enjoy while visiting, they also have beautiful landscaped gardens. The gardens include a waterfall, gorgeous flowers, plants and many benches for you to sit down and just relax for a bit. After making your way through the gardens, you can get some lunch at their deli and sit out on the deck as you overlook the Great Smoky Mountains and enjoy listening to the birds as you dine and unwind!
